A typical day for Caleb

I start stirring around 7:30am (I move around alot, but my eyes are still closed), and mama comes and gets me at 8:00am.

I have breakfast until about 8:30am (it only takes about 15 minutes to eat, but I spend alot of time talking and smiling)

Then I spend some time with daddy, (if he's still at home).

I have a bath, get dressed, and if its nice outside, go for a walk.

Then it's nap time. I'm usually asleep by 9:30am. I sleep until 11:00am (sometimes I wake up early, ready to play, but most of the time I take a good nap)

Lunch time comes next and I eat sometime between 11:00 and 11:30am.

Then I play with mama. We sing songs, read books, have tummy time, and I spend some time in my bouncy seat.

Nap time again, from 12:30 or 1:00 until 2:00.

Then I have a little afternoon snack, and spend more time with mama. Sometimes I sit in my seat (bumbo seat) and watch mama clean or do laundry.

I have another nap from 3:30 until 5:00, and then its dinner time. I eat dinner and then daddy's home from work. I get to play with daddy while mama fixes dinner.

I take one more short nap while mama and daddy eat dinner (usually from about 6:30 to 7:15 or 7:30).

Then it's almost bedtime. I get on my jammies, we read a book, say our prayers and I eat one more time before I go to sleep.

At 8:30 it's bedtime for me.

Mama gets me up and feeds me before she goes to bed at 11:30, but I usually stay asleep the whole time. I'm very talented and can eat and sleep at the same time.

Mama goes to bed at midnight (she's such a night owl) and I sleep until morning. (Sometimes mama has to come give me my paci during the night, but she doesn't mind because it just takes a second, and is much quicker than having to feed me in the middle of the night)

What I love about Caleb at 3 months old

Can it really be? Has it really been 3 months since our little man was born? I can't believe how quickly the time goes by and I know it's just going to keep moving faster and faster. "He'll be playing t-ball tomorrow," is something I've heard several times in the last few months, and I'm beginning to think it's true. He will be playing t-ball tomorrow, or at least that's how it seems.

When we found out I was pregnant (it seems like that was just a few days ago) I never imagined that God would bless us with such a sweet little boy. He is such a joy to be around.

Always smiling and happy
.

Ok, maybe not always.

He's laid back and easy going (he gets that from his dad) and happy to just hang out around the house with mama and daddy. He sleeps great, taking up to 4 naps a day and sleeping from about 8:30pm until 8:30am (eating twice, pretty much in his sleep, once around 10:30pm and once between 2 and 5am). He loves his baths, his bouncy seat, reading books, singing songs, and as of late, watching football with daddy. I know, I know... you're thinking, "watching football? he's 3 months old, how can he watch football?" But he does. If football is on the TV and he's in the room, he's watching it. I think it's all the movement and colors that grabs his attention, but according to Charles, he's just a huge fan of the game.

What do I love about Caleb at 3 months old?

*He knows his mama and daddy, I mean really knows us, and smiles and talks to us more than to anyone else.

*It's so easy to make him smile ... the littlest things make him happy (like a silly noise from daddy or a song from mama)

*He is awake longer during the day and his naps are shorter (which is fun, for now). I'm sure I'll be wishing for long naps again soon.

*He is still so snuggly. He really loves to snuggle and rock before he goes to sleep.

*It's so fun to watch him observe the world around him and take in new things.

*His chubby legs, and his double chin ... so cute :)

*His big blue eyes (I wonder if they'll stay that color)

Accomplishments and New Skills

*He can hold up his head and chest when laying (or is it lying ... I never know) on his tummy.

*He can roll over from his tummy to his back.

*He can support alot of weight on his legs if you help him stand.

*He talks, and talks, and talks.

It has been a wonderful 3 months! I love being Caleb's mama and I know that Charles loves being his daddy.

Happy 3 months little man!!!

btw: he now weighs 14lbs. 5 oz. and is 24.5 inches

I promise

I'm not keeping up with this blog as much as I'd like to. As Caleb is getting older, he's awake longer and his naps are shorter, which means I have less time to get things done around here. But we are still loving every minute of being his parents. I promise a nice, long, detailed post about what we've been up to in the next few days. So you can wait in eager anticipation ;)

Practice Makes Perfect

Caleb has been working on some new skills the past few days. He's been very strong since the day he was born, but he's just now learning how to use this strength. He has been holding his head up well for a couple of months now, but this week he has learned how to hold up his head and chest while resting his weight on his arms. Since he sleeps on his tummy, this new skill lets him look around the room while in his crib. It's somewhat of a distraction, but not much I can do about that.

He has also started rolling over. He did it for the first time over a week ago, but I think that was just a fluke. This week he has started actually rolling from his tummy onto his side, and occasionally all the way to his back. He does this in his crib, and still I don't think it's quite intentional on his part. Sometimes he's very fidgety when I put him down for naps, and he gets his legs kicking, and just kicks himself onto his side or back, but he can't get back onto his tummy by himself. I need to help him learn this soon, or I can just see myself making hourly trips into his room to put him back on his tummy in the middle of the night.

The last thing is laughing. This little man has been smiling for weeks, and let me tell you, it is cute. But he hasn't quite got the laughing thing down. You can tell by the look on his face that he thinks something is funny, and it looks like he's laughing ... but no sound. This afternoon, for the first time, he actually laughed out loud, or at least Charles says so. I missed it, but I'm sure I'll hear plenty of his sweet laughs in the days to come.

He's still growing like crazy. I'm not sure how much he weighs now, but if I had to guess I'd say he's at least close to, if not over, 14 pounds. And he's already starting to outgrow some of his 3 month clothes, and moving on to 3-6 month stuff. I can't get over how cute he is. I know that I'm completely biased, and that everyone thinks their kids are the cutest, but really... I really think he might be.

What A Day

It's amazing how quickly we can get frustrated at the littlest things, especially when running on little sleep. I have had one of those days. This past weekend started with me helping out at a 5K. I woke up at 4:30am, fed Caleb (he usually wakes up around 5:00am), then headed to the race. It was early and I was tired. Charles and Caleb stayed home to get some more sleep and then met me at the race later in the morning. I've been having problems getting Caleb to eat his first "meal" of the day (I think because of that 5am feeding) and Saturday was no exception. He would not drink a bottle for Charles, so they just came on to the race anyways. We ended up leaving early because I knew Caleb was going to be getting tired and hungry soon, which is not a good combination. Once we got home he was just in a grumpy mood most of the day. He cried when it was time for naps ( he doesn't normally) and didn't eat well when it was time to eat. Saturday night my sister babysat and once again, he would not take his bottle. He did go to sleep pretty well for her, which I was thankful for.

Well, since he had missed 2 feedings he woke up twice in the middle of the night to eat, 3:00am and 6:00am. And once again (this time because he had just eaten at 6:00) he would not take his first "meal" and the whole thing started over again. He didn't eat when he woke up, so he didn't take a good nap and woke up hungry. Then he didn't eat well because he was still tired. And so went Sunday. Sunday night he again woke up twice (3:00am and 5:30am) and just didn't sleep well in general. I was up 4 different times, twice to feed him, once to give him his paci, and once to move him back to the middle of the crib (since he sleeps on his tummy, he moves all over the place and sometimes pushes himself up against the side of the crib). Needless to say, neither of us slept very well. So Caleb was tired today and only took 1 good nap. If he's too tired it keeps him from sleeping, which I know seems backwards, but thats the way it is. Well because he was tired all day he ate horribly, I even started thinking maybe he was sick or something, but we took his temp. and it was fine. I'm still thinking maybe he wasn't feeling good today, or maybe he was just exhausted. Either way, we put him to bed at 8:45 and it was 10:00 and many tears later (his and mine) before he was finally asleep.

Right now, he is sleeping peacefully and I'm hoping that he sleeps better tonight than he did last night, for his sake and mine.

I kept getting frustrated over the last few days when he wouldn't eat when I wanted him to, or when he wouldn't go to sleep when I wanted him to, but now that I think about it (it's much easier to think without him screaming) things could be so much worse. Caleb is such a sweet little boy. He is so happy most of the time and I shouldn't let these little things frustrate me the way they do. I love my little man, and wouldn't trade one minute of time I have with him, even if he is having a rough couple of days.

Labor Day Weekend

We spent alot of time with family and friends this weekend.
And Caleb spent alot of time getting passed around.
Thankfully he's such a good boy and doesn't mind it too much :)

He got to meet some relatives for the first time (lots of cousins), and got to spend time with his grandparents and his great-grandparents. Isn't it amazing that Caleb has 3 living sets of great-grandparents?

Here's some pictures from our busy weekend ...

Caleb and his Uncle John Michael (uncle mic)

Caleb and his Aunt Kathryn and his Poppy

Aunt Ragan (not technically ... yet) and Uncle David

Aunt Rachel and Jason

Caleb and Uncle Mic ... again

Caleb and Aunt Ragan

Caleb also went for his very first swim on Labor Day, and he seemed to really enjoy it.

He had fun splashing with daddy in the water.

10 weeks old

Caleb turned 10 weeks old yesterday, and at 10 weeks ...

He is sleeping great in his crib. It only took a few days for him to get used to his new surroundings.

He is going down for naps amazingly. He rarely cries or fusses when put down, but just closes those blue eyes and falls asleep.

He is so close to sleeping through the night, and I mean really sleeping through the night, not just midnight to 5am or something. He sleeps from around 10:30pm until 5:30am. If I could just get him to last 2 more hours until 7:30am. I know he's close though.

He really enjoys being read to. I know he's not old enough to actually know what's being read, but he will look at the pictures and sit still and quiet while I read him books.

We went to church with Charles' family this weekend, and Caleb did great. He had a bottle during the service and then a quick nap.

He's still loving his bouncy seat and spends at least 15 or 20 minutes in it every day.

He also loves his mobile hanging over his crib. He "talks" to the animals hanging from it. If he happens to wake up a few minutes early in the morning I just turn his mobile on and it gets me an extra 10 minutes before I have to get him up. :)

He went through a growth spurt this week, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's over 13 lbs. now.

He loves "talking" to his daddy in the mornings.

He's getting so big and is more fun every day!
