10 weeks old

Caleb turned 10 weeks old yesterday, and at 10 weeks ...

He is sleeping great in his crib. It only took a few days for him to get used to his new surroundings.

He is going down for naps amazingly. He rarely cries or fusses when put down, but just closes those blue eyes and falls asleep.

He is so close to sleeping through the night, and I mean really sleeping through the night, not just midnight to 5am or something. He sleeps from around 10:30pm until 5:30am. If I could just get him to last 2 more hours until 7:30am. I know he's close though.

He really enjoys being read to. I know he's not old enough to actually know what's being read, but he will look at the pictures and sit still and quiet while I read him books.

We went to church with Charles' family this weekend, and Caleb did great. He had a bottle during the service and then a quick nap.

He's still loving his bouncy seat and spends at least 15 or 20 minutes in it every day.

He also loves his mobile hanging over his crib. He "talks" to the animals hanging from it. If he happens to wake up a few minutes early in the morning I just turn his mobile on and it gets me an extra 10 minutes before I have to get him up. :)

He went through a growth spurt this week, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's over 13 lbs. now.

He loves "talking" to his daddy in the mornings.

He's getting so big and is more fun every day!

9 weeks old

At 9 weeks old ...

Caleb turned 2 months old this week ... no party though :)

He also had his 2 month doctor's appointment and got his first shots, which he did not like.

He finally moved to his crib, and although he didn't like it at first, he's getting used to it.

He is still very smiley and happy, particularly when he wakes up.

He still loves his bouncy seat, and his new "under the sea" play mat (thanks, nanny!)

He is still eating every 3 hours during the day and sleeping about 5.5 to 6 hours at night, but I have a feeling this will be extended in the near future.

He weighs 12 lbs. 10 oz.

He is still sleeping on his tummy, although I did try switching him back to sleeping on his back. He would have none of it. Oh well.

He went to the nursery at church for the first time while Charles and I taught Sunday school. He seemed to enjoy it, although he did get hungry before we made it back, and missing his morning nap through off his schedule for the rest of the day.

He rolled over from his tummy to his back, only once, and we didn't see it, but he was in his crib on his tummy and the next time Charles checked on him he was on his back. We'll see if it happens again or if it was just a fluke.

He slept though his first meal at a restaurant. We had just enough time to eat before he woke up.

8 weeks old

Well ... he's 8 weeks old today. It seems like yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital.

At 8 weeks ...

He is smiling more and more and we are learning how to get him to smile. Tickling the corner of his mouth often works, lots of Charles' funny animal noises do the trick, and just catching him at the right moment (after he's been fed and taken a nap).

He is noticing more of his surroundings and loves looking out windows.

He loves his bouncy seat and has figured out that by kicking his legs he can make the toys that hang overhead move. He's particularly fond of the zebra :)

He is more vocal and makes lots of noises.

He studies your mouth when you talk to him, and you can tell he's trying to figure out how to do it himself.

His playtimes are longer and his naptimes are shorter. He still takes 4 naps a day, but he's awake for about 1.5 hours and then naps for about 1.5 hours.

He is still sleeping good at night, from about 11:30 until 5:30 or 6:00, so no complaints there.

We are transitioning him from his Moses basket to his crib (which he does not like, by the way). But he's such a big boy that he's not going to last much longer in the basket.

He gets excited and happy when Charles comes home from work. It's easy to get smiles out of him then.

He likes riding in his stoller, going for walks, and riding in his sling. If he's tired and nothing else works I can put him in his sling and he's out within a few minutes. I try not to use it for that too often though, don't want to establish any bad habits.

He went with us to Sunday school for the first time and did fine. He got fussy for a few minutes, but then fell asleep and slept for the rest of the lesson.

He's changing so fast and getting so big. It's amazing how quickly the time goes by.

7 weeks old

Caleb is 7 week old today ... how the time flies

This week Caleb was all smiles. He's finally figured it out and is smiling all the time. Although he smiles more often for daddy than mommy, or so it seems. It's absolutely adorable, but amazingly difficult to capture in a picture. I'm working on it.

He slept 7 straight hours 3 nights this week, so I think we are well on our way to sleeping through the night on a regular basis, thank goodness!

He took his first vacation. We went to the lake (Greer's Ferry) and stayed in a lake house. He also had his very first boat ride, which put him right to sleep.

He had his first visit to a restaurant as we stopped at The Bulldog on the way home from the lake. He made it about 2 minutes before crying. Thankfully we just stopped for some ice cream so it was quick.

He is noticing things around him more, and can often be found staring intently at his mobile above his swing or crib. Or staring at the polka dots on the lining of his Moses' basket. This kid has a thing for polka dots.

He can lay on his stomach and use his arms to hold up his chest and head. Such a big boy!

He's awake more and asleep less, which is fun, but I think he's getting to an age where he doesn't want to take naps because he would rather look around. He doesn't want to miss anything, so he protests when I put him down for naps. If you aren't sure what I mean by 'protest' ... he cries, and screams and pretty much throws a fit :)

He still sleeps on his tummy but we might try switching back to his back because I've discovered that on his tummy he can move from one end of his crib to the other.

Either his hair is getting lighter or just thinner, it's hard to tell, but it's beginning to look more the color my hair was when I was younger.

6 weeks old

I can't believe he's already six weeks old...

this week he smiled his first real smile...
to someone he had never seen before...
it's ok we know we'll get one soon enough

He is even stronger, lifting his head and looking around,
and standing (with help of course)

He has slept through the night several times and regularly sleeps 5 hours

He has gotten too big for the moses basket he has been sleeping in,
so after we go to the lake this weekend, we move to his crib

He's wearing 3 month clothes

He went to his first big gathering ... a lunch at church ...
everyone thought he was adorable :)

5 weeks old

Caleb is 5 weeks old today. Hard to believe. It seems like just yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital, but at the same time I have a hard time remembering life without him.

At 5 weeks old....

Caleb is sleeping through the night even better, about 6.5 hours, which is amazing.

He's even more alert.

He loves looking out windows, and at a particular shadow on the ceiling above his changing table.

He scoots from one end of his bassinet to the other when I put him on his stomach,
looks like we'll be moving to the crib soon.

He's eating quicker and better. I don't have to spend the whole time waking him up, which is nice.

He still smiles in his sleep, and is close to smiling while he's awake or at least Charles thinks so.

4 weeks old

Things get rather confusing at this point. While Caleb is 4 weeks old today, he's not 1 month old until Thursday, the 23rd. So I wasn't sure if I should post today or wait until Thursday. But oh well. I can not believe it has been 4 weeks already, that seems crazy! We have a doctors appointment next Monday and I will be very interested to see how much he weighs. Any guesses?? My guess is 10 lbs. 3 oz.

The last couple of days have been rough. I wanted to attempt to get Caleb on some sort of a schedule so I started paying attention to what time he was napping and what time he was eating every day. After several difficult days I realized I was trying to do too much too fast. So for now, I'm just trying to establish a routine. He eats, plays, naps, over and over again throughout the day, on a 3 to 4 hour cycle. Hopefully in a week or so this will be established enough to attempt to start watching the clock again, and getting some sort of order to my days. If his first "cycle" starts at the same time every day then my days will pretty much look the same. So that's the goal.

At 4 weeks old...

Caleb is more awake and more alert.

He likes watching the mobile on his swing, and sitting in his bouncy seat.

He eats every 3 to 4 hours, and sometimes 2.5.

At night he sleeps anywhere from 3 to 5 hours between feedings at night, so I'm still getting pretty good sleep.

He has outgrown even more newborn clothes and is even wearing some 3 month clothes.

He still loves sleeping with daddy in bed, and when he gets fussy sometimes its the only thing that works.

He takes naps in his bassinet rather than the swing, but does not go to sleep very well on his own.

He still likes his paci but doesn't NEED it.

3 weeks old

Caleb is 3 weeks old today! He has already changed so much and is getting so big. Here is where we are right now....

He can hold his head up all by himself to look around.

He sleeps for 4-5 hours at night and lets mommy sleep.

He loves sleeping with daddy in the evening.

He loves being swaddled and sleeps so much better when he is.

He loves taking naps in his swing.

He likes his paci, but thankfully doesn't have to have it all the time.

He has outgrown some of his newborn sized clothes and newborn sized diapers.

He takes long naps during the day, but then wakes up starving, and I just can't move fast enough.

I can't believe it's already been 3 weeks!

2 weeks old

Caleb had his 2 week doctor's appointment this morning, and everything went great. He was born at 8 lbs., a few days later he was down to 7.5 lbs and they wanted him to be back up to 8 lbs. by today. Well, he was. He weighed in at 8 lbs. 5 oz. so they said he is doing great. He has also grown an inch, which is crazy! He was born at 20.5 inches and today he was 21.5 inches. He is still in the 50th percentile for height and weight. The doctor said that because Caleb is back over his birth weight I don't have to wake him up to feed him at night anymore. Yay!! There are some nights when I have to wake Caleb up after 4 hours of sleeping to feed him, so I'm hoping it won't be long until he is sleeping through the night on his own. I can't even remember what 6 hours of straight sleep feels like, but I'm looking forward to it.

He also had his first shot today. It was the hepatitis B shot, which sometimes they give at birth, at the hospital, but Caleb didn't get it there, so he got it this morning. He DID NOT like it. But he only cried for a few seconds and then he was fine, and I'm sure completely forgot about it a few minutes later.

We spent the rest of the day at the house, me watching the Michael Jackson memorial (I'm not sure why) and Caleb sleeping and eating, since that's all he does.

It's crazy that Caleb is already 2 weeks old, but at the same time I feel like he's been here forever. It reminds me of the way I feel about being married to Charles, on one hand it's hard to believe it's been almost 4 years since we got married, but at the same time it feels like we've always been married. Both are wonderful!! I love being married to Charles, and I love being Caleb's mom, and I know Charles feels the same way. He is such a great dad! I love watching him and Caleb together and the cute way they interact with each other.

Here is a picture of Caleb from today...at 2 weeks old.
